A residence permit in Ukraine is a document that confirms the status of a foreign citizen in Ukraine:

Basis for receiving a temporary residence permit have:
- Foreigners and stateless persons that came to Ukraine for employment according to law;
- Foreigners and stateless persons that came to Ukraine for participation in implementation of international technical assistance projects registered in the established manner;
- foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine for the purpose of preaching religious teachings, performing religious ceremonies or other canonical activities upon the invitation of religious organizations and in agreement with the state body that registered the relevant religious organization;
- foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine to participate in the activities of branches, offices, representative offices and other structural cells of public (non-governmental) organizations of foreign states registered in accordance with the established procedure;
- foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine to work in representative offices of foreign economic entities in Ukraine, registered in accordance with the established procedure;
- foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine to work in branches or representative offices of foreign banks registered in accordance with the established procedure;
- foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine for cultural, scientific, educational activities on the grounds and in accordance with the procedure established by international treaties of Ukraine or special programs, sportsmen who obtained professional status, as well as foreigners and stateless persons, arrived in Ukraine to participate in international and regional volunteer programs or participation in the activities of volunteer organizations registered in Ukraine in accordance with the established procedure;
- foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine for work as a correspondent or representative of foreign mass media;
- Foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine for the purpose of education;
- foreigners and stateless persons who have arrived in Ukraine for the purpose of family reunion with persons who are citizens of Ukraine or who, while staying lawfully on the territory of Ukraine in the cases specified in parts three to twelve of Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine “On Legal Status foreigners and stateless persons “, married with citizens of Ukraine;
- foreigners and stateless persons who arrived in Ukraine with the purpose of family reunion with the persons specified in parts two to twelve of Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons”;
- Foreigners and stateless persons, after completing the maximum period of stay in the temporary residence of foreigners and stateless persons illegally staying in Ukraine, they applied for a residence permit.
Basis for receiving permanent residence permit have:
- the figures of science and culture, whose immigration is in the interests of Ukraine;
- highly skilled specialists and workers, an acute need for which is tangible for the Ukrainian economy;
- persons who have made a foreign investment in the economy of Ukraine in a foreign convertible currency for the amount not less than 100 (one hundred) thousand US dollars;
- persons who are a full brother or sister, grandfather or grandmother, granddaughter or granddaughter of Ukrainian citizens;
- persons who were previously citizens of Ukraine;
- parents, husband (wife) of the immigrant and his underage children;
- persons who have been residing continuously on the territory of Ukraine for a period of three years from the date of establishing the status of a person who has suffered from trafficking in human beings;
- persons who served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine for three years or more.
